Something to Smile About career toolkit on ADA.org
The ADA's popular resources, Something to Smile About: Careers in the Dental Profession, have been revamped for 2010—with newly organized career toolkits, complete with comprehensive educational information targeting students of specific age groups and free downloads from ADA.org.
Dentists, dental societies, health career advisors, school counselors and educational institutions have used resources from Something to Smile About to promote careers in dentistry.
A variety of toolkits are offered reflecting career options in dentistry, dental hygiene, dental assisting and dental laboratory technology.
The toolkits are geared to predental, high school and elementary school-age students. Each one features unique aspects of dental and dental team careers communicated via brochures, handouts and frequently asked question fact sheets (packaged for a class or group of 25).
Also included in each toolkit are a new 11-by-17-inch poster with the entire dental team, new career day presentation outlines with ideas for hands-on demonstrations and activities, and information about the ADA job shadowing/mentoring program.
New in 2010 is the toolkit designed for elementary school-age children with resources that introduce dentistry to younger audiences (2nd through 6th grade). "Make Smiles Healthy" activity sheets and ideas for hands-on demonstrations and activities are included in the elementary toolkit.
All resources are designed to support a variety of outreach needs, such as mentoring programs, handouts for classroom use, or distribution at career and health fairs. DVDs, tabletop displays, a handout titled "Top Ten Reasons to Consider Dentistry" and a Predental (College) Timeline handout are also available.
