HOD mega topic to focus on ethics
Orlando, Fla.—The ADA will hold the seventh interactive mega topic discussion session Oct. 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Hilton Orlando, Orange Ballroom D meeting room.
This year's session will examine the question, "ADA Strategic Priority: Provide Support to Dentists so They May Succeed and Excel Throughout Their Careers. Success at What Cost?"
The format will be similar to previous years with small table discussions. This year will also feature seven ethical scenarios presented by volunteers from the Joint Subcommittee on Ethics and Integrity in Dental Education and Practice with opportunity for the group to discuss four separate scenarios. The results of the discussions at each table will be collected and compiled by the consultant facilitator and posted by ADA on the House of Delegates site on ADA.org.
"Input from the House of Delegates in these sessions is key," said Dr. J. Thomas Soliday, ADA speaker. "The goal is to start a dialogue and get people thinking about ethical dilemmas and how certain decisions can affect them, their Association and their practice. It's an opportunity to ask: What would I do and how can the ADA provide support? I am looking forward to the feedback we generate from this discussion."
Participants must be ticketed delegates or their alternates. The district trustees will distribute tickets to delegates during the pre-annual session caucuses. In the event a delegate is not able to participate, the ticket may be given to an alternate delegate. A limited number of spaces will be available for others to attend as observers. However, an actual discussion participant must be a delegate or alternate and have a ticket.
Delegates are asked to bring their Backgrounder for the House of Delegates 2010 Mega Topic Discussion document, which was distributed to in August and is available on ADA.org. Delegates are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to ensure a prompt start.
