The 2010 House of Delegates on Saturday declared the following officers elected: Speaker J. Thomas Soliday and trustees Drs. Steven Gounardes; 2nd District; Joseph F. Hagenbruch, 8th District; Roger L. Kiesling, 11th District, and Carol Gomez Summerhays, 13th District.

Balloting for president-elect and second vice president is scheduled for Tuesday.

Statements from the candidates for second vice president (Drs. Patricia L. Blanton and Lee D. Jess) are on page eight. Results will be posted on ADA.org and appear in the Oct. 18 issue of the ADA News.

Dr. Soliday

Brief biographies of those elected follow:

Dr. J. Thomas Soliday, Gaithersburg, Md., was re-elected speaker, a post he has held since first elected in 2002.

Dr. Soliday was parliamentarian for the Maryland State Dental Society and speaker for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons’ House of Delegates.

He is a past president of the MSDA, Southern Maryland Dental Association and Maryland Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Gounardes

Dr. Steven Gounardes, Brooklyn, N.Y., 2nd District Trustee, has served as an ADA delegate since 2005 and is a past chair of the 2008 ADA Reference Committee on Dental Benefits, Practice, Science and Health.

He is a past president of the New York State Dental Association and Second District Dental Society.

He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy—earning that organization’s Distinguished Dentist Award in June 2007—and a past member of the Greater New York Dental Meeting Organization Committee.

Dr. Hagenbruch

Dr. Joseph F. Hagenbruch, Harvard, Ill., 8th District Trustee, has served as chair of the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs and is also a past member of the Electronic Health Record Committee and chaired the SNO-DENT Editorial Panel.

He is a past president of the Illinois State Dental Society, McHenry County Dental Society and currently is president of the McHenry County Cooperative Dental Clinic. He is a past president of the Illinois Academy of General Dentistry and a fellow in the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy.

Dr. Kiesling

Dr. Roger L. Kiesling, Helena, Mont., 11th District Trustee, is a past chair of the ADA Council on Dental Practice and a former member of the Council on Dental Education and Licensure, Dental Workforce Task Force and Task Force on Commission on Dental Accreditation.

He is a past president of the Montana Dental Association and was the 2003 recipient of the MDA’s Clinical Excellence Award. He is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy and a lead visiting faculty member of the Pankey Institute.

Dr. Summerhays

Dr. Carol Gomez Summerhays, San Diego, 13th District Trustee, is as a national advisor of the ADA Institute for Diversity and Leadership, has served as an ADA Delegate since 2004 and is a former member of the ADA Strategic Planning Committee.

She is a past president of the California Dental Association, treasurer of the CDA Foundation and member of the San Diego County Dental Society Board of Directors.

She is a past president of the San Diego Academy of Dentistry; a fellow in the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists and Pierre Fauchard Academy; and an AGD master and fellow.
