Vote expected on ADA-backed Red Flags legislation

Washington—The U.S. House of Representatives was expected to vote Oct. 20 on ADA-backed legislation to exempt health care practices with 20 or fewer employees from the Federal Trade Commission's Red Flags Rule.

H.R. 3763 would amend the Fair Credit Reporting Act to provide for an exclusion from the FTC's Red Flags identity theft guidelines for dental offices and other health care practices with 20 or fewer employees. The bill defines a health care practice as a business providing health care by health care professionals, including dentists.

The FTC has delayed enforcement of the regulation through Nov. 1.
