Applications sought for GKAS University program

Applications sought for GKAS University program

St. Louis—Up to seven individuals interested in honing their Give Kids A Smile planning skills will be chosen as grant winners and ambassadors who will attend and participate in the founding St. Louis program set for Oct. 26-30.

Applications must be completed online by Monday, July 18. Grants will cover travel expenses for chosen participants.

Grant recipients will receive hands on training regarding the inner workings of a successful, well-established GKAS program. Recipients will also be given an opportunity to work as ambassadors at the clinic in a variety of settings— working in check-in, clinic escort, sterilization and more. This will enable participants to experience how this highly successful clinic operates.

Representatives from state and local dental societies of the ADA and/or community based organizations providing oral health care for underserved children during GKAS will be considered. Applicants must reside within the U.S. 50 states.

The GKAS National Advisory Committee will consider candidates demonstrating commitment and ability to provide dental homes and continuity of care to underserved children through their own GKAS programs. Candidates should have experience with managing/chairing a GKAS event and hold a position in their organization that will allow them to effectively implement lessons learned during the event. Applicants do not necessarily have to be a licensed dentist or hygienist. Due to Missouri licensing rules, not all participants present will necessarily be working as clinical practitioners.

Grant winners will be notified the week of Aug. 8.
