ADA website educates on going paperless

The Electronic Health Record is currently a hot topic among health professionals.

And hot topics breed discussion and discussion can breed rumors. The American Dental Association encourages dentists to visit to get the most accurate and up-to-date information about electronic health records.

The goal of the federal government is to encourage eligible Medicare and Medicaid providers to begin utilizing electronic health records by the end of 2014, and the ADA continues to help on the dental portion.

President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 authorized up to $27 billion in incentive payments to encourage providers to adopt EHRs and $2 billion to develop a national infrastructure for the adoption of EHRs. Following a request for proposal issued by the Department of Health and Human Services under the Bush administration, the ADA worked to position itself as the expert resource and advocate for dentistry’s portion of the EHR.
