Correction: Dentistry not a STEM degree yet
The American Student Dental Association informed the ADA News June 23 that dentistry has not been added to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math degree programs list as was reported in the June 6 ADA News.
The designation would provide dental students from foreign countries earning their degrees in the U.S. with an additional 17 months to seek additional technical training after graduation. ASDA has submitted a formal request to the Department of Homeland Security asking that dental degrees be added.
“To clarify, dentistry has not been officially added as a STEM degree—it is only under consideration to be added at this time. We apologize for our error,” wrote ASDA officials in a letter to the ADA News.
