SJDS raises funds for GKAS program
Stockton, Calif.—The San Joaquin Dental Society raised $3,500 for its 2012 Give Kids A Smile event and other community dental events by hosting a charity golf tournament Aug. 12 at the Brookside Golf and Country Club in Stockton.
A total of 60 golfers hit the links and 20 sponsors and 20 contributors also supported the fundraising effort. Golfers competed for prizes and enjoyed a celebration dinner after the tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament will help the dental society continue to offer care for its sizeable Give Kids A Smile program, said Dr. John Hall, SJDS president.
“Last February, approximately 60 San Joaquin Dental Society dentists, reinforced by dental hygienists, University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry dental and dental hygiene students treated 270 underserved patients in our largest GKAS effort ever,” said Dr. Hall. “For this collaborative event, held Feb. 5, we had 250 volunteers and performed over $100,000 in dental services. It was a day I will never forget.”
The charity golf tournament, added Dr. Hall, “served the dual purpose of having a membership event along with raising $3,500 for the 2012 GKAS program. I am extremely proud of the efforts of our volunteers and their commitment to community outreach.”
