Health Screening Program advantages add up

Participants receive free and low-cost health screenings, convenience and one CE credit

San Francisco—Sixteen free screenings. Nine additional screenings for a nominal fee. One appointment, one location and one database for the good of dentistry.

How many excellent reasons do you need to sign up for the ADA Health Screening Program at the 2012 Annual Session? Well, add another to the mix: participants are now eligible to receive one CE credit for participation.

Available to dentists, hygienists and chairside assistants registered for Annual Session, the HSP was founded at the 1964 Annual Session.

Since then, more than 60,000 dental professionals have been screened through the program, contributing to one of the largest databases of information pertaining to the health of the dental team.

Aside from contributing to the database, the HSP is an opportunity for participants to be educated—thus, the CE credit—based on learning objectives tied to the screenings. Participants receive a flash drive of related information.

Complimentary screenings include blood pressure; height, weight and body mass index; metabolic profile, including high and low density lipoproteins; C-reactive protein; hepatitis B; head and neck; finger stick blood test; urinary mercury; range of motion and posture; salivary diagnostic; latex hypersensitivity; and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Optional screenings include bone mineral density ultrasound for osteoporosis; electrocardiography; Helicobacter pylori; take-home self-test for colon cancer; inflammatory joint disease; prostate specific antigen; thyroid stimulating hormone; vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency.

Scheduled appointments for member dentists only are available from 7-11:30 a.m. in the Moscone Center’s south building. Walk-ins are welcome as space permits and will be screened from noon-3 p.m.
