Alliance honors four with Spencer award
Honored: Alliance of the ADA members, from left, Julie Vaughn, Stephanie Grambau and April Cobb are honored at the AADA Annual Conference in Branson, Mo., on April 19.
The Beulah K. Spencer Service Award is a distinguished service award that recognizes members who make outstanding contributions and who exemplify outstanding leadership and volunteer spirit through excellence in service and commitment to their Alliance on the component and/or constituent level. Established in 1994, this prestigious award honors members who have been active ten years or less.
This year's recipients include:
• April Cobb, Waco, Texas: A former teacher and mother of two, Mrs. Cobb supports her husband's second career as a dentist by engaging herself in local activities to promote oral health awareness. She visits local schools and has reached over 500 children with dental health education.
• Julie Vaughn, Flowery Branch, Ga.—Mrs. Vaughn plays an integral role in planning dental health education activities such as the district-wide Give Kids A Smile event where over 100 volunteers reached over 300 kids. She worked closely with the school board to arrange for children to be bused in for oral health care and education. She and local Alliance members are developing a planning committee for future events.
• Stephanie Grambau, Lititz, Pa.—A nurse, teacher and manager at a wedding venue, Mrs. Grambau is also the practice promotions coordinator at her husband's office. President of her local Alliance, Stephanie uses email and social media to communicate with members. Her chapter holds an annual fundraiser and prepares more than 1,800 kits for local shelters for National Children's Dental Health Month. Next year she will incorporate an NCDHM poster contest and display entries in local dentists' offices, and laud winners in the local newspaper.
The Alliance of the American Dental Association promotes healthy dental practices for dentists, the public and the dental profession as a whole; actively supports dental families at every stage of their career and lives; acts as ambassadors for dentist spouses and dentistry through legislative advocacy and local outreach; and provides extensive oral health education in communities across the nation.
