Join us: Dr. Thomas Sullivan, former ADA vice president, speaks during the ADA Success Student Dental Program Aug. 19 at ADA Headquarters. Dr. Sullivan discussed career options and dentistry and why it's great to be a member of the ADA.
First-year dental students at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry visited ADA Headquarters Aug. 19 to participate in an ADA Success Dental Student Program.

Pondering the message: Above, a UIC student listens during a presentation Aug. 19 at ADA Headquarters. Below, a first-year student asks a question.

The Success Dental Student Programs provide the next generation of dentists with ethical and practice management information and valuable ADA resources for the transition from dental school to dental practice. The ADA offers the Success Dental Student Programs, which consist of four presentations, one for each year in dental school, to every school, every year.

Dr. Thomas Sullivan, former ADA Vice President and practicing dentist, presented on career options in dentistry and gave ethical scenarios for the students to ponder, in addition to discussing the value of being a member of organized dentistry.

"If I could do dentistry for free, I would do it. That's the passion," Dr. Sullivan told the 60 students in attendance as he pointed to his heart. "If you have it, make it grow. If you don't, get it."

Networking: A UIC dental student gets another student's phone number during a break in the program.

The students also toured the ADA building and heard about the Association's science lab and other areas that keep the ADA running and serving members.

Programs are free to the students and the school. For more information, or to schedule a program, contact ADA Office of Student Affairs at 1-312-440-7470 or studentaffairs@ada.org.
