Annual Session name change to debut in New Orleans

Say hello to ADA 2014—America's Dental Meeting

Beginning at the ADA's 155th Annual Session in San Antonio Oct. 9-14, 2014, the American Dental Association meeting's official name will be ADA 2014—America's Dental Meeting.

The name change will make its debut at the ADA Annual Session in New Orleans Oct. 31-Nov. 3.

"The rebranding," said Dr. James E. Galati, 2014 chair-designate for the Council on ADA Sessions, "reflects the council's mission to offer ADA members world-class continuing education, exhibits, special events and the annual meeting of the House of Delegates, the ADA's legislative body and supreme authority that speaks for the more than 157,000 dentist members of the Association and for the dental profession in the United States.

"The council's mission is to create a world-class dental experience that incorporates value, innovation and diversity of attendees and location to the benefit of the entire dental community," said Dr. Galati. "The ADA meeting is the only meeting that moves around the country to give members nationwide a chance to attend. It offers award-winning, innovative continuing education formats not found anywhere else, and it's the only dental event that includes the annual meeting of the ADA House of Delegates, where members can advocate for decisions that affect the dental profession."

Research conducted in 2012 showed that members identify strongly with the ADA more than the meeting itself. In addition, members frequently refer to the annual meeting as "ADA" rather than "Annual Session," whether they attend or not.

"By emphasizing the ADA name and the concept that we are America's Dental Meeting, we will help our members make a stronger connection to our annual meeting and to feel more engaged with the Association when they are seeking a world-class learning and networking experience," Dr. Galati said.
