The Law: Under 31 U.S.C. sec. 3332 you are required to designate one or more financial institutions to receive electronic funds transfer of government payments. If you do not do this, you risk NOT BEING PAID until the designation is complete.

The Benefits to You: Electronic funds transfer will let you receive payments faster and more safely than by mail. It saves you having to deposit checks. And most importantly, you won’t risk not being paid!
