ADA Member Profile

Marianna Clougherty, DDS
Harrisburg , PA
ADA member for over 10 years

Describe Your Practice
It's a "general dentistry" practice but we should call it "the woman does everything practice!" Being a "general dentist" to me means being proficient in so many procedures. I do a lot of restorative/cosmetic work but I also do a nice mix of Invisalign, endodontics, and oral surgery.

What’s the most-often asked question from your patients?
Are you strong enough to do extractions?

Dr. Clougherty and her team at the 2005 ADA Annual Session.
L to R: Wendy, Dr. Clougherty, Karen, Trisha and Wendy

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve done as a dental professional?
I have traveled with a group called Ecuadent three times to the Andes Mountains of Ecuador to do volunteer work. What an amazing experience! The founder, Tammy Fesche, was born in Ecuador and married a Maryland dentist. She wanted to give back to her country so she started a medical/ dental mission trip. It was a humbling privilege to serve the orphan children as a volunteer dentist. We were in a restaurant one night, guarded by Ecuadorean secret service, when the President of Ecuador came in to have dinner. To the dismay of my secret service guards, I walked over to President Alarcon's table and introduced myself and told him of our group's work. He was very gracious!

What would you be doing if you weren’t a dentist?
I secretly write lyrics for songs. Put to music they'd rock!

What’s the most recent book you’ve read?
Michael Baden, M.D.'s "Unnatural Death: Confessions of a Medical Examiner"

How do you deal with stress?
Chocolate!

Who has most influenced your life?
Definitely my Mom who had always pushed me to try harder, do more and believe in myself. She's the inspiration behind our unofficial office motto which is "Perfection or Rejection"!
