What is the most interesting thing that has happened or you’ve done as a dental professional?
Ludwig’s Angina. I have seen it several times here and it amazes me how much pain these people will endure before seeking help. I feel like I am in a MASH unit in the morning and I feel like I am making a difference in peoples’ lives here. Every day is interesting.

Why did you choose dentistry as a profession?
I was a RDH; graduated in 1982 before returning to dental school in 2003. I wanted to work in public health and knew I needed to do more. I loved dental hygiene but I am so grateful I took out the student loans at this point in my life. I absolutely have no regrets. This is one of the most rewarding professions anyone can have. You gain respect from the community as a professional and you gain personal gratification for your work inside your heart—this is the part that money can't buy.

What's the most difficult challenge you've faced in your practice?
Trying to manage this. This clinic has been without a dentist for 2 years.

Name one unique thing on a wall in your clinic or displayed in your waiting room.
I work at Eagle Child Health Clinic. I have a two foot Eagle Head with the clinic name on the wall of the waiting room, to show respect for where I am the privileged to work.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a dentist?
I would be a biochemist, working on research for the treatment and prevention of disease.

Name/describe your favorite CE course taken in the past two years.
Challenges I, Indian Health Service. I finally got to sit down and study with other dentists that work in the same type of setting that I do. I had the chance to hear techniques from Oral surgery, Pedodontist, Periodontist, Endodontist as well as have the hands on experience. There were about 10 of us so the learning availability was incredible.

What are you most proud of?
I graduated Cum Laude with a DMD at age 46.

What is your favorite book or movie?
I have a friend who would say the Merck Manual but this is weird, although I do read it.
Movie: The Peaceful Warrior

Where is your favorite vacation spot or activity?
Vacation: anywhere with water to play in; Activity: Target Practice

Who has most influenced your life?
My mother, even though she has been deceased since 1990.

Any final thoughts or words of advice?
The only limitations you have in your life are set in your mind. Realize this early in your life.
