Describe Your Practice
I have a busy solo practice with an all-female
staff—me, my dental assistant, a full-time dental hygienist, a hygiene assistant/office assistant, and an office manager. I love my work!
What’s the most-often asked question from your patients?
"Do you like being a dentist?" Most say that they have never been to a female dentist.
What is the most interesting thing that has happened or you’ve done as a dental professional?

I am the first African-American female dentist to open a practice in the city of Vicksburg, MS. I love that I am a history maker!
Why did you choose dentistry as a profession?
I love health care and I like being able to pretty much control my schedule and spend a lot of time with my family.
What's the most difficult challenge you've faced in your practice?
Making enough time in the day to see everyone. My schedule stays packed and it is hard to tell patients that I cannot see them for a month.
Name one unique thing on a wall in your clinic or displayed in your waiting room.
Psalm 23. One of my patients gave it to me as a picture/wall display saying that I helped her to confront and get past her fears of going to the dentist after years of being afraid. That blessed me beyond words!
What is/was the most challenging aspect of dental school?
The requirements. But I loved dental school.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a dentist?
Probably a college professor or something else in health care.
Name/describe your favorite CE course taken in the past two years.
There was a course I sat in on at the Thomas Hinman meeting in 2004 that focused on treating dentistry as a business, which it is. I learned more from that course than any I have ever attended.
What do you do to relax?
Watch TV. Read and surf the internet.
What is the most daring thing you’ve done in your lifetime?
Flown in a helicopter in Orlando, FL.
What are you most proud of?
My family and that God has blessed me with this occupation and a good name in Vicksburg, MS.
How do you deal with stress?
Pray. Read. Walk away.
Where is your favorite vacation spot or activity?
The Caribbean. I will be going there on a mission trip this summer, but will get some sun and relaxation while there.
What are your hobbies?
Mostly church-related activities, movies, internet.
Who is your favorite singer or musical group?
Joann Rosario, Lakewood Choir, Israel Houghton
What do you do for exercise?
Work!
Name one thing you have in your home from your childhood.
A family picture
Name your favorite movie.
"Madea's Family Reunion" It was hilarious!
Who has most influenced your life?
My aunt and her late husband. They have been the greatest influence on me earlier in my life, and on my husband and I during our life together.
What musical instrument do you play?
Piano
What concerns you about the future?
Brutal crime rates and the lack of motivation and ambition of the younger generation.
Any words of advice?
How can anyone live sanely in this insane world without the peace of Christ?
Anything else you’d like to mention?
I love dentistry! I cannot imagine doing anything else with my life for a career.
