Dissemination of Evidence-Based Information
There is a gap between the most current evidence-based health knowledge and the information that is typically applied in making health and care decisions. As the knowledge base grows, the gap widens. Dissemination of Evidence-Based information is a necessary and crucial step to close the gap and enhance and improve oral health.

About Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Support (CDS)
CDS provides clinicians, staff, patients or other individuals with knowledge and person-specific information, intelligently filtered or presented at appropriate times, to enhance health and health care.
CDS encompasses a variety of tools and interventions such as secondary EB journals, electronic records and charts, computerized alerts and reminders, clinical guidelines, order sets, patient data reports and dashboards, documentation templates, diagnostic support, and clinical workflow tools.
Instantly available patient information delivered to PDAs or laptops, for example, holds the promise of reducing adverse drug interactions, dosage errors, costs and paperwork. After hours dental emergencies can be efficiently managed with CDS tools.
CDS tools and products are readily available and they are being more widely used. For example, knowledge resources include the JEBDP, JADA, ADA Professional Product Review, and the ADA’s upcoming EBD Web site.

Evidence-Based Education -The Future or a Fad...
The recent movement toward greater utilization of evidence-based practice in the clinical setting has motivated instructors to make curricular and policy decisions by using an evidence basis for education programs in academic settings. A key driver in this trend is the fact that newer technologies have significantly changed the practice environments and consequently the education environment. The need for an evidence basis for the use of these evolving technologies becomes paramount as institutions continue to invest heavily in these technologies while seeking positive returns on their investments.

Increasing the Safety and Cost-Effectiveness of Medication Use Through Clinical Decision Support
The increasing costs of medication error, in terms of life, quality of care and dollars, have made medication management a critical issue in healthcare. Effective medication management in dentistry must put the right information in the hands of the right people at the right time.
