ADAF launches global disaster relief fund
Posted Dec. 2, 2008

Generous support from donors to the ADA Foundation to help bring relief to disaster victims outside the United States has spurred the development of the new ADA Foundation International Disaster Assistance Fund.

The new fund will accept financial donations that donors specify for support and/or reconstruction of the oral health infrastructure in countries affected by a disaster.

"The ADA Foundation Board felt strongly that we needed to designate a fund to quickly respond to international disasters," said Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni, ADAF president. "We are deeply gratified to donors who respond generously to the Foundation when these dire events occur, and we are committed to swiftly dispatching funds to support humanitarian efforts in disaster-struck countries."

To donate to the new IDA fund, visit www.adafoundation.org/ada/adaf/donate.asp to donate by fax or telephone; ADA members may donate online. Please specify "International Disaster Assistance Fund" on your check or form. For more assistance call 1-312-440-2547.

Donors responded generously to the ADA Foundation's Tsunami Dental Reconstruction Fund after the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004, contributing nearly $340,000.

Grants are still available to applicants from U.S. and non-U.S.-based organizations working to rebuild oral health care initiatives and infrastructure in countries affected by the tsunami, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Somalia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

To learn more about eligibility criteria and how to submit a proposal to apply for a grant from the Tsunami Dental Reconstruction Fund, log on to www.adafoundation.org/ada/adaf/grants/index.asp. Applications must be received by March 31, 2009.
