By Stacie Crozier All-star slugger Albert Pujols is going to bat for Give Kids A Smile, headlining a public service announcement that will hit the airwaves nationwide later this month.
Mr. Pujols, the 2008 National League Most Valuable Player and recipient of the 2008 Roberto Clemente Award, an honor that recognizes a major league baseball player for outstanding play on the baseball diamond as well as humanitarian work off the field, donated his time to record the spots for the ADA.
The 15-, 30- and 60-second PSAs will be distributed to some 1,300 broadcast stations and cable outlets nationwide. Stations can begin airing the spots in late January and will run them through February.
Members who receive inquiries from patients and the public can find detailed information about GKAS programs in their state by logging on to the Dental Society Resources Web site: www.adadentalsociety.org .
ADA member dentists will also get a sneak peek of the PSAs via e-mail later this month, including a special video introduction by ADA President John S. Findley.
Give Kids A Smile day is Feb. 6. So far, more than 1,500 programs are planned and nearly 12,000 dentists have registered to volunteer for GKAS. For more information, contact gkas@ada.org.
