Posted March 30, 2009

By Arlene Furlong

Portland, Ore.—The Federal Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Justice Information Services Division is sponsoring a May 16-17 workshop here on coding dental forensic information for the National Crime Information Center and the National Dental Image Repository.

Located at The Nines in Portland, the training session is designed to provide NCIC dental coding and NDIR instruction to licensed dentists who wish to provide assistance to law enforcement in the identification of missing and unidentified person cases.

The training is free, but enrollment is limited to 40 people. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants should be licensed dentists. The deadline to apply is April 27. To obtain a copy of the registration form, contact Stacey C. Davis of the FBI's CJIS by phone at 1-304-625-2618 or by e-mail at stdavis@leo.gov.

A certificate will be issued for 16 hours of training at the conclusion of the course.

Instruction will include, but is not limited to, topics including the NCIC system: NCIC overview; missing, unidentified, and wanted person file overview; NCIC Supplemental Dental Record; NCIC Dental Comparison Algorithms; coding of missing and unidentified person records; interpreting NCIC Cross Match Reports; and NDIR overview and submission.

The training is free, but travel costs and accommodations are up to the attendees. A block of rooms has been obtained at a group rate of $116 per night at The Nines hotel. The group rate reservation deadline is April 27; call the hotel at 1-877-229-9995 and reference the FBI Group Block.
