AGD appoints new executive director
Posted July 22, 2009

By Karen Fox

The Academy of General Dentistry's Board of Trustees announced the appointment June 1 of Charles "Chuck" J. Macfarlane, CAE, as AGD's new executive director.

A fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mr. Macfarlane brings more than 20 years of experience in health care management and background in association member services, publications, and governance and volunteer relations to his new role.

"General dentists play a critical role in improving the oral health of the public," said Mr. Macfarlane. "Being a part of the professional society that contributes to that vision and assists general dentists in achieving their professional goals is a very exciting opportunity."

Added AGD President Paula S. Jones: "We are confident Chuck's expertise and skills in managing health care associations will help the AGD continue to grow as a professional organization that serves the general dentist and helps them stay current with continuing education, new dental technology and the latest research."

Mr. Macfarlane comes to AGD from Joint Commission Resources, where in his role as vice president of learning he drove the strategic direction and operations of an $18 million education, publications and e-learning business unit. Prior to that, he served in several managerial and executive positions at the American College of Healthcare Executives from 1991-2006.
