Resources: How Your ADA Can Help Get You Started

If you're a dental student or new dentist looking for advice on how to get started in dentistry, just call the ADA and wait awhile. A truck will back up to your door.

Through its Council on Dental Practice, the ADA Catalog and various agencies, the Association offers booklets, brochures, seminars, videotapes, computer disks and other materials on every aspect of dental practice — from associateships and dental placement services to financial management and practice promotion.

Also, the Office of Student Affairs operates the popular SUCCESS program, a practice-management seminar with collateral materials targeted to senior dental students. The program is presented on site at dental schools across the country (For more information, call Ext. 2808 or visit www.ada.org/prof/ed/students/success.asp.)

Students and new dentists can also get help finding what they need through the ADA Office of Student Affairs (Ext. 7470) or the Committee on the New Dentist (Ext. 2779). In addition, ADA.org provides valuable resources for students and new dentists at www.ada.org/prof/index.asp.

Finally, the ADA News offers "Starting Out," a column centered on helping students and new dentists get started in practice and get involved in organized dentistry.

What follows is a sampling of materials and programs available through the ADA — and which department to call.
