Texas Dentist Assumes Presidency of the American Dental Association

CHICAGO, October 22, 2008—John S. Findley, D.D.S., who practices general dentistry in Plano, Texas, was installed as president of the American Dental Association (ADA) and will lead the 156,000-member organization's efforts to protect and improve the public's oral health and promote advances in dentistry.

Dr. Findley's installation took place yesterday during a meeting of the ADA House of Delegates in San Antonio. He previously served as ADA president-elect.

A former ADA Board member, Dr. Findley served a four-year term as the trustee from the Fifteenth District (Texas). His other previous responsibilities with the ADA include serving as a delegate and chairing reference committees on dental education and licensure and on government affairs. He also served on two key ADA projects: the Future of Dentistry study and the Task Force on Governance.

During his term on the ADA Board, he served as Board liaison to the Councils on Dental Practice, Scientific Affairs and Government Affairs and on key committees.

Dr. Findley is a past president of the Texas Dental Association (TDA) and the Dallas County Dental Society (DCDS). He received the President's Award from the TDA in eight different years since 1994 and named DCDS Dentist of the Year in 1995. His many civic activities include terms as Council member and Mayor for the City of Crossroads.

He received his dental degree from the Baylor University College of Dentistry, which presented him with its Distinguished Alumni Award in 1996. His earlier education was at Southern Methodist University, North Texas State University and the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and a fellow of the American College of Dentists, the International Colleges of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, an international honorary organization for dentists.

Dr. Findley and his wife, Judy, have two sons, Brett and Alan.
