ADA Continuing Education Helps Dentists Develop Leadership Skills

Free course offered to ADA members

CHICAGO, April 6, 2009 – Dentists are eligible to hone their leadership skills with American Dental Association (ADA) Continuing Education Online, which offers a self-guided course, Understanding Associations, designed to help dentists identify their leadership style, conduct effective meetings, set goals and gain a better understanding of the professional association’s role in the political process.

The course, which is free and offered exclusively to ADA members, is comprised of nine modules that dentists can complete at their own pace—starting and stopping as needed.  The modules included in the series include: Associations 101, Effective Leadership, Strategic Planning, Association Committees, Formation and Procedure, Recruitment and Retention, Finances and Budgeting, Communications, Diversity and Political Action. Dentists who complete the series of modules in one year will be awarded three continuing education credits. Participants are encouraged to check with their state dental board to determine whether these credits will be accepted by their dental licensing jurisdiction.

For more information about Understanding Associations and other Committee on the New Dentist leadership development offerings, including web seminars and workshops, contact the ADA at 800-621-8099 extension 2779, or newdentist@ada.org, or visit www.ada.org/goto/newdent. To join the ADA, contact the Department of Membership Information at 800-621-8099 extension 2607 or membership@ada.org.
