California Dentist Installed as American Dental Association Trustee
CHICAGO, Oct. 13, 2010— Carol Gomez Summerhays, D.D.S., a San Diego-based general dentist, was installed today as a trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Summerhays’ installation took place in Orlando, Fla., at the ADA's 151st Annual Session.
Dr. Summerhays will serve on the ADA Board as the trustee from the 13th District (representing California.) The ADA Board formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA's governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the Board, Dr. Summerhays will play a major role in the ADA's organizational objective of being America’s leading advocate for oral health.
Dr. Summerhays is a past president of the California Dental Association. She has been a delegate to the ADA House of Delegates since 2004, serving on the House Reference Committee for Communications in 2005. Dr. Summerhays also served on the ADA Strategic Planning Committee since 2007.
Dr. Summerhays served in the Dental Corps of the United States Naval Reserve, where she rose to the rank of Lieutenant. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Southern California in 1978.
In San Diego, Dr. Summerhays was honored by the Salvation Army as one of the “Women of Dedication” and by the Girl Scouts as one of “San Diego’s 10 Cool Women.” She and her husband of 27 years, Soames, have two sons, Giles and Bryce.
