Message from the Chair: CCEPR Strategic Planning

Picture of Dr. Paul R. Leary, Chair When the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition was established by the ADA House of Delegates in 2014, it was charged with developing standards for continuing dental education, reviewing and approving providers of CE, and administering the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (CERP). Over the last two years the Commission has worked to transition policies and procedures to the new governance model, while overseeing continued growth of CERP. The Commission is now poised to set goals and priorities that will guide its course in the coming years.

As a first step, at its September 2016 meeting, the Commission adopted mission, vision and values statements affirming that CCEPR “serves the public, the dental profession, and other healthcare providers by developing and implementing standards that promote excellence in continuing dental education to support professional competence and continuous improvement of patient care.”

To ensure that the Commission achieves its mission, we are currently finalizing a strategic plan prioritizing initiatives for the next four years. Our work will focus on three areas:
  1. Establishing and promoting standards for effective CE that supports quality dental care; the comprehensive revision of the CERP Recognition Standards which is underway will be central to this effort.
  2. Improving CERP assessment processes: enhanced technology will support efficiencies in operations and facilitate online application and review processes.
  3. Achieving optimal organizational capacity: operational goals will emphasize administrative practices that support the Commission in fulfilling its responsibilities in a financially and operationally sustainable manner.
As we develop and implement our strategic plan, the Commission will strive to support the dental profession with standards for CE which promote improved outcomes in education and health care.

Paul R. Leary, D.M.D., 2016-2017 Chair
