2020 ADA Children's Airway Conference

Integrating Science into Action – an ADA Children’s Airway Event is Postponed

Please know that the American Dental Association’s first priority is the health, safety and well-being of everyone. With the continued developments of COVID-19 and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) recommendations for events, the ADA has made the decision to postpone the June 12–13 Integrating Science into Action—an ADA Children’s Airway Event in Chicago at ADA Headquarters.

As of now, a new date has not been set for this conference. We will continue to monitor the situation and hope to select a date for late summer or fall as soon as we are able.

June 12-13, 2020 - Postponed; new date TBD
ADA Headquarters
211 E Chicago Avenue, Chicago IL

Dentists are learning important ways they can help kids grow up without the sleep breathing problems so many adults are dealing with. Learning techniques to assist with sleep breathing issues in children and ‘why it’s important’ is one thing, but many dentists aren’t comfortable talking with or managing behavior in young kids, so they put off the important conversations that can lead to significant health care. This program is focused on showing attendees practical, useful behavioral skills to put into practice immediately. Each speaker will share what works for them in clinic, and each participant will create action plans to take home for their team. Come to Chicago and learn how to know what to do with kids, their families, teach your team, and return with a plan to make a lifetime difference for your patients.

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Lead a team meeting with specific exercises so everyone is comfortable talking about airway with patients and their families
  • Discuss how big the problem is with sleep breathing, what to look for, who to work with, and which screener tools are best used to identify patients at risk
  • Counsel families about food choices that lead to healthier lifestyles in children and other strategies to stop sleep breathing problems
