Health System Reform Resources

An Era of Change

The US health care system is experiencing a heightened level of activity due to the demands of implementing federal regulations aimed at reforming health care administration, health care delivery, and use of health care information technology.

HIPAA Privacy and Security

Most recently, the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules' requirements were strengthened by the 2013 HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule. Changes include new patient rights, new business associate agreement requirements, and civil monetary penalties for business associates who violate HIPAA Privacy, HIPAA Security, and/or HITECH Breach Notification requirements. Learn more about HIPAA Privacy and Security here.

Meaningful Use

The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Meaningful Use programs continue, with many eligible professionals and organizations receiving incentive payments. Find out if your practice is eligible and the appropriate next steps via the Meaningful Use resource. Learn more about Meaningful Use here.

National Provider Identifier

The National Provider Identifier Rule, which was authorized by HIPAA, has not changed, but some of the rules affecting its use have, particularly with regard to the filing of Medicare Part D pharmacy claims. Learn more about Medicare Part D claim submission rules and NPI use. Learn more about National Provider Identifier here.
