Recognized Dental Specialty Certifying Boards
Following the granting of recognition by the National Commission, the recognized sponsoring organization must establish a national board for certifying diplomats in accordance with the Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists (PDF).
Currently, there are eleven national certifying boards recognized by the National Commission. The National Commission will not recognize any certifying board without the prior recognition of a dental specialty sponsoring organization.
Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists
Based on the Requirements for Recognition of National Certifying Boards for Dental Specialists, in order to become, and remain eligible for recognition by the National Commission as a national certifying board for a dental specialty, the specialty must have a sponsoring organization that meets all of the elements of the Requirements for Recognition of a Dental Specialty.
The role of the recognized certifying board is to certify dentists as diplomats only in the special area of dental practice approved by the National Commission. No more than one certifying board will be recognized for the certification of diplomats in a single area of practice.
Visit the National Commissions Application for Recognition Process webpage.
