Alabama Dentist Elected ADA’s Second Vice President

CHICAGO — George Lewis Mitchell, Jr., D.M.D., a practicing dentist in Gadsden, Alabama, was recently elected second vice president of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Mitchell’s election took place during a meeting of the ADA House of Delegates in Denver, Colorado.

The ADA Board formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA’s governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the ADA Board, Dr. Mitchell will play a major role in the ADA’s efforts to be America’s leading advocate for oral health.

Dr. Mitchell has been an ADA member since 1973 and has served in many leadership positions within the Association, including as a delegate to House of Delegates. He’s also been president of both the Alabama Dental Association and the Alabama Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Mitchell is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a fellow of the International College of Dentists. 

Dr. Mitchell earned a D.M.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. Dr. Mitchell has been in private practice since 1975 and since 2011 has helped train the next generation of dentists as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry.
