New York Dentist Installed as American Dental Association Trustee

CHICAGO — Paul R. Leary, D.M.D., a dentist practicing in Smithtown, New York, was recently installed as a trustee of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Leary’s installation took place in Honolulu at ADA 2018 – America’s Dental Meeting. 

Dr. Leary will serve on the ADA Board of Trustees as the trustee from the Second District, which encompasses New York. The ADA Board of Trustees formulates and reviews policies and programs and makes recommendations to the members of the ADA’s governing body, the House of Delegates. As a member of the ADA Board of Trustees, Dr. Leary will play a major role in the organization’s objective to be America’s leading advocate for oral health.

Dr. Leary has been a member of the ADA since 1985 and a member of the House of Delegates since 2004. Dr. Leary is also involved with numerous other dental organizations, including the Academy of General Dentistry, New York State Dental Association, Suffolk County Dental Society, American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. He served on the New York State Dental Foundation Board from 2009-2014 and is the co-editor of the Suffolk County Bulletin.

Dr. Leary graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry and earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. He then achieved the rank of commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve and served active duty at the U.S. Naval Dental Clinic in Newport, Rhode Island. He has practiced dentistry in Smithtown, New York, since 1989, and currently practices with Dr. Matthew A. Hanna and his daughter, Dr. Megan R. Leary.
