JADA, ADA Catalog each earn EXCEL awards

The Journal of the American Dental Association and the Fall 2011 ADA Catalog were named EXCEL award winners by the Board of Directors of Association Media and Publishing for material published last year.


The August 2011 JADA won the Gold EXCEL Award in the category, journals: cover design. The graphic content and design layout for this cover of JADA were chosen to illustrate the August 2011 cover stories, “An Update for Dentists on HPV Infections in the Oral Mucosa” and “The Connection Between HPV and Oral Cancer.”

“The credit and kudos for this award belong to our creative director, Peter Solarz,” said Dr. Michael Glick, JADA editor, singling out a member of the ADA Publishing staff. “Month after month for 27 years, Peter has never failed to find a fresh approach to our cover topic. He is one of the many unsung heroes of what we do.”

The Fall 2011 ADA Catalog received the Bronze EXCEL Award for promotional publications: membership directories/buyers guides/catalogs.

The user-friendly catalog offers dental professionals 100 pages of valuable ADA resources, including an e-book section, Top 10 products and cross-references. The catalog is easy to read and navigate from front to back or back to front. Offering clear product explanations, photos and benefits, anyone can find what they are need at a glance.


“In a year with an extraordinary number of high-quality entries, your submission displayed superior quality in design, writing and innovation. We’re proud to honor your work and inspiration,” said Amy Lestition, Association Media and Publishing executive director, and Leslie McGee, chair, EXCEL Awards. The two signed the April 4 letter informing the ADA of the awards.

JADA and the ADA Catalog will be recognized June 11 at the 32nd Annual EXCEL Awards Gala in Baltimore. Association Media and Publishing is based in McLean, Va.
