Earn CE from opioid webinar
June 06, 2012
Learn about treating patients on long-term opioid therapy in an ADA webinar.
“Chronic Opioid Therapy in Dentistry,” presented by Dr. Jeffrey Crandall, is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 27. The webinar has been approved by the ADA's Continuing Education Recognition Program and participants can earn 1 unit of CE.
Dr. Crandall is the acting president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain and a well-known presenter and lecturer on orofacial pain.
“A select group of chronic, complex orofacial pain patients may be candidates for pain management using long-term opioid therapy. Those attending this webinar will recognize the complexities of treating chronic pain patients with long-term use of opioid medications and will be able to identify those clinical tools that can help reduce risk factors, ensure patient compliance and improve outcomes with long-term opioid therapy,” Dr. Crandall said.
The ADA received a sub-award from the American Academy of Addictive Psychiatry from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, which received a three-year grant to create webinars and training on treating pain and opioid addiction. Over the next three years, the ADA will receive a sub-award of $33,000 per year.
The center is paying for the Prescriber’s Clinical Support System for the Appropriate Use of Opioids in the Treatment of Pain and Opioid-related Addiction, which is a collaborative effort among a handful of medical associations that will provide training and education on the topic.
