Leaders from the dental laboratory industry, dentists, educators, dental lab technicians, dental editors and American Dental Association staff gathered Feb. 22 for the eighth annual Dental Lab Summit, held in Chicago prior to the Chicago Dental Society’s Midwinter Meeting. The meeting, founded by Drs. Gordon Christensen, Burney Croll and Bill Yancey, is an opportunity to share information and discuss solutions to the challenges facing the dental laboratory industry.

Positive relationships: Dr. Burney Croll, executive director of the Dental Laboratory Summit, recognizes the ADA for its efforts in moving the summit’s agenda issues forward.

Stats: Dr. Gordon Christensen, co-organizer of the summit, provides statistics showing an increase in the number of dental schools in the United States and the decreasing number of dental laboratory education programs and labs.

Founder’s day: Dr. Bill Yancey, assistant dean at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Dentistry, co-founded the summit.

China tour: Bennett Napier, executive director of the National Association of Dental Laboratories, shares photos and stories from his tour of two export dental labs in China. Mr. Napier said that NADL is not a proponent or opponent of offshore restorations.
