ADA patient education brochures, videos available for dentists' websites

October 15, 2012

The ADA is offering a special savings to subscribers of its PatientSmart library of patient education information.

Subscribe to PatientSmart by Nov. 15 and get the new CDT 2013: Dental Procedure Codes for only $1 with campaign code 12244.

PatientSmart is a library of concise ADA patient education information that is accessible from the home pages of subscribing dentists via an easy-to-install button. A dentist subscribing to PatientSmart can select which topics to display and patients see a coherent list of treatments the dentist has recommended. Patients can view videos—or read text and see images—drawn from the ADA’s best-selling brochures.

Dr. Brian C. Hammer, of Elizabethtown, Ky., subscribed to PatientSmart and has installed it on his home page. “We will be telling patients to look up info and topics on our website using it, and I am sure that many visitors to the site will be perusing it,” Dr. Hammer said. “We plan to print out some of the articles to hand out to patients so that they can increase their understanding of problems they have “¦ cracked tooth syndrome, TMD dysfunction and to better their health. I am very pleased with it.”

Patients may access up to 26 different topics related to dental health and treatment directly from their dentist’s home page. Each page of PatientSmart has the subscribing dentist’s contact information at the top. Subscribers may email PatientSmart content to patients before or after an office visit or to reinforce chairside messages.

CDT 2013 provides the code, but also significantly reflects code changes with 35 new, 37 revised and 11 deleted codes. It also includes seven new or revised service categories and subcategories. The updated coding book standardizes essential information for health care providers, electronic health records, patients and insurance companies.

A subscription to PatientSmart is available for a one-time set up fee of $99 and $29.95 a month, which may be canceled at any time. All Toothflix customers get free start-up. To see a demo video, sample pages and other PatientSmart information, visit
