Online game aimed at cybersecurity

December 09, 2013

The federal government released a second Internet game to help health care providers and their staff keep patient information secure.

The latest game under CyberSecure: Your Medical Practice focuses on disaster planning, data backup and recovery and other elements of contingency planning. That planning helps providers and staff prepare for power outages, floods, fires or weather related events like tornadoes or hurricanes.

These events can damage patient health information or make it unavailable; planning can help ensure patient information is protected and can be accessed after the disaster event.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s Office of the Chief Privacy Officer released the game.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act Security Rule requires contingency planning.

The game is available here.
