ADA/Kellogg executive management program registration opens

March 19, 2014

Looking to enhance your dental experience and clinical training with enhanced management skills?

Registration for the 2014 session of the American Dental Association and Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management's ADA/Kellogg Executive Management Program is open, with applications due July 1.

In its 10th year, the executive-level program consists of a specially designed curriculum for dentists to learn more about business management from one of the nation's top-ranked management schools.

"I find myself utilizing concepts I learned there every day whether it be a new business strategy or developing a budget for a new project," said Dr. Amerian Sones, continuing education executive director at Texas A&M University Baylor College of Dentistry.

"The program enhances one's ability to think differently about managing not only practice and business models but personal financial matters as well," added Dr. Sones, who graduated from the program in 2012. "Business management is an area that most dentists, even business savvy professionals, could benefit from. Having these management skills will help keep the practices on the cutting edge to provide outstanding patient services while maintaining profitability and staff harmony."

Based on the core curriculum of incoming Kellogg Master of Business Administration students, the program addresses business strategy, organizational leadership, marketing, finance, accounting, economics, business analytics and operations. Kellogg professors teach all courses.

"Wether considering a marketing decision, reviewing a financial report, evaluating an insurance program or negotiating a contract, my opinions are formed from a broader view based on the business knowledge I gained through the program," said Dr. Elizabeth Demichelis, 2012 graduate.

The 12.5-day program is held at Northwestern University's Chicago campus, near the ADA headquarters. The 2014 sessions are set for Sept. 19-22, Oct. 24-27 and Nov. 14-18.

Registration fees are $16,000 for ADA members and $17,000 for nonmembers. Fee includes tuition, course materials and most meals. Tuition does not include travel and lodging. ADA members receive discounts on select Chicago hotels. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
