HIPAA tasks for your practice

October 06, 2014 The ADA Complete HIPAA Compliance Kit has tools to design and implement a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act compliance program, including customizable forms and revisions to reflect changes from the 2013 Omnibus Final Rule. A recent ADA member email describes "four easy tasks to facilitate HIPAA compliance" with and additional links to ADA apps from the Apple Store and Google Play.

  • Update your business associate agreements. Business associates should take the same precautions with personal health information as you do. The compliance kit's revised form covers business associates and their sub-contractors.
  • Designate a privacy official — your practice's HIPAA point person. The kit includes a job description and a form that documents the assignment of your privacy official.
  • Get a notice of privacy practices in Spanish. The kit has NPP forms in Spanish and English.
  • Make sure staff training is current with the kit's two-level CD-ROM training program. Level 1 teaches office staff HIPAA compliance basics. Level 2 is a module designed for managers to develop office HIPAA programs.
