ASDA awards leadership scholarship
September 01, 2014
The American Student Dental Association Board of Trustees selected Lydia Lancaster, a class of 2016 student at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry, as the recipient of the 2014 Ryan Turner Memorial Scholarship.
Ms. Lancaster, an ADA student member, will receive a $2,500 scholarship and funding to attend ASDA’s Oct. 31-Nov. 2 National Leadership Conference in Chicago.
The scholarship is given in memory of Ryan Turner, who was an ASDA national leader and fourth-year dental student at the University of Michigan when he died in 2007. The scholarship honors those who demonstrate the same leadership qualities and characteristics Mr. Turner exhibited through his service to the ASDA.
“During my time in ASDA, ‘The best can always be better’ has become my motto,” said Ms. Lancaster. “Leadership is about the example that he or she sets. I hope that my work encourages current and future leaders to always strive to improve dentistry. ASDA is now part of who I am. It gives me great pride to be actively part of this organization.”
Ms. Lancaster currently serves as vice president of Ohio State’s ASDA chapter and District 6 legislative liaison. She is also a student consultant for the Ohio Dental Association Council on Access to Care & Public Service and liaison to the ASDA Columbus Dental Society.
