Virtual reality office design debuts at ADA 2015

August 10, 2015

By David Burger

Virtual reality will be a reality at ADA 2015 — America's Dental Meeting Nov. 5-10 in Washington, D.C.

Wells Fargo Practice Finance and Patterson Dental are cosponsoring the Dental Office Design Center that will feature a new virtual reality experience as an advanced tool for dental office design.

"At this year's annual meeting Patterson is offering dental professionals the chance to experience the next generation of dental office design, virtual reality," said Mike Stark, manager of corporate office design at Patterson Dental. "Through virtual reality a customer will truly be able to visualize and encounter their future practice before they ever sink a shovel in the ground."

The experience features Patterson's Design Edge 3D software and interactive virtual reality glasses.

A participating dentist will begin the experience at a six-foot-wide kiosk with a design consultant and technology expert. The dentist will take a virtual reality tour of a state-of-the-art dental office with the experts serving as tour guides. A TV monitor at the booth will project the doctor's tour in real time to passersby.

The experience lasts between five and eight minutes.

The virtual reality kiosk is part of the Dental Office Design Center, which includes other consultation kiosks and a theater for 13 continuing education courses ranging from business and financial planning to design and technology.

Attendees can get additional inspiration for their own office while browsing entries and winners from the 2015 Dental Office Design Competition on touchscreen monitors. Winners of the competition will be announced in the Nov. 5 ADA News Convention Daily.
