CDEL to grant scholarships to AAL's Institute for Teaching and Learning

November 20, 2015 The ADA Council on Dental Education and Licensure is granting two tuition scholarships to the Academy for Academic Leadership's Institute for Teaching and Learning — as part of a commitment to support dental education and ADA general dentist members interested in academia.
Although individuals may apply at any time during the year, the 2016 deadline is Feb. 15. Scholarships are granted by May 1.
"The council shares the profession's belief that dedicated dental education faculty are essential to furthering the profession of dentistry," said Dr. Daniel Gesek, CDEL chair. "The council is again pleased to provide scholarships to the Institute for Teaching and Learning providing an opportunity for two qualified members to acquire the skills of a master educator."
The institute is a teacher-training program for full- or part-time dental educators and private practitioners interested in an academic career. The program is presented in two-phases totaling six days with distance education modules between phases. The program, held in Atlanta, allows scholars to explore all aspects of academia.

Additionally, the institute program includes 50 hours of continuing education credit through the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program and the Academy of General Dentistry PACE program.

CDEL will select tuition scholarship recipients based on these criteria:

  • Meeting the eligibility requirements.
  • Accurate application form.
  • Strength of recommendation letters.
  • trength of personal essay.
Eligible individuals must be a general dentist, current ADA member, graduate of an accredited dental education program, licensed to practice/teach dentistry in the United States and active in the practice of dentistry.

The scholarship is in the amount of ITL tuition.  To access complete information about the program, search for "Dental Scholarship for the Academy for Academic Leadership's Institute for Teaching and Learning" on For more information on AAL/ITL, visit
