National Health Service Corps will host online job fair Oct. 20

October 15, 2015 Washington — In honor of Corps Community Month, the National Health Service Corps will host a free, online job fair Oct. 20 from 6:45-10 p.m.

Held each October, Corps Community Month aims to increase awareness for NHSC programs as well as agency's role in bringing primary health care services to underserved communities. This year's job fair is open to all licensed, primary care providers – including general dentists and registered dental hygienists – interested in serving at least two years at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area.

According to NHSC, its typical virtual job fair has representatives from 30 to 40 job sites with as many as 190 job openings in a wide range of health disciplines. During this year's event, applicants can learn about job vacancies and will also have the opportunity to chat with site representatives about the job and benefits package, clinical environment, populations served and local community. The fair will feature specialized chat rooms where participants can watch 15-minute presentations of specific job programs followed by an online question-and-answer period.

Following the job fair, participants will be provided with each site's information, job openings and contact information. Applicants who are accepted will receive funding for their education through scholarships and loan repayment.

Since 1972, more than 47,000 primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health professionals have served in the Corps.

To hear first-hand about the benefits of being a part of the Corps, watch this video of Dr. Kelly Crooker, a NHSC loan-recipient and public health dentist, serving in Mobile, Alabama. To learn more about Corps Community Month and all NHSC programs, visit the NHSC website.
