ADA Foundation honors 30 allied dental students

The ADA Foundation announced in June the 30 winners of the 2016 Allied Dental Student Scholarships.

The Foundation offers the scholarships annually to help dental hygiene, dental assisting and dental laboratory technology students defray part of their professional educational expenses. The goal is to facilitate the education of academically gifted students, which in turn helps to foster the public's oral health.

Through the program, the Foundation awards up to 30 scholarships each year, valued at $1,000 each, to 15 dental hygiene students, 10 dental assisting students and five dental laboratory technology students.

The 15 Dental Hygiene Student Scholarship winners are:

  • Nicole Atterberry, South Florida State College, Avon Park, Florida.
  • Porsche Hadeed, Pima Medical Institute, Seattle, Washington.
  • Erica Hall, Clark College, Vancouver, Washington.
  • Emily Mallory, Minnesota State Community & Tech College, Moorhead, Minnesota.
  • Alexi Mann, Truckee Meadows Community College, Reno, Nevada.
  • Simone McClelland, Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California.
  • Audrina Munoz, Concorde Career College, Aurora, Colorado.
  • Trang Nguyen, Middlesex Community College, Lowell, Massachusetts.
  • Katherine Nobles, Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, North Carolina.
  • Alecia Petersen, Utah Valley University, Orem, Utah.
  • Svetlana Puchalsky, University of Alaska, Anchorage, Alaska.
  • Jenna Snapp, Fortis Institute, Erie, Pennsylvania.
  • Laura Stahl, Lake Superior College, Cotton, Minnesota.
  • Belem Villalovos, Colorado Northwestern Community College, Rangely, Colorado.
  • Shauna Wilson, College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls, Idaho.

The 10 Dental Assisting Student Scholarship winners are:

  • Amy Bontrager, Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
  • Rebecca Bryan, Western Piedmont Community College, Morganton, North Carolina.
  • Baylee Csomo, Lorenzo Walker Technical College, Naples, Florida.
  • Abigail Gibson, Northwest Florida State College, Niceville, Florida.
  • Mikaelyn Harrison, Ivy Tech Community College, South Bend, Indiana.
  • Mindi Huseman, Amarillo College, Amarillo, Texas.
  • Rosalyn Nguyen-Huu, Pasadena City College, Pasadena, California.
  • Kristen Patterson, Northwestern Michigan College, Traverse City, Michigan.
  • Whitney Watson, Hawkeye Community College, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The five Dental Laboratory Technology Student Scholarship winners are:

  • Ivon Calderon, Indian River State College, Fort Pierce, Florida.
  • Brianne Crager, Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
  • Ramona Lohman, Bates Technical College, Takoma, Washington.
  • Petteri Salo, Durham Technical Community College, Durham, North Carolina.

The application process begins the second Friday of January and closes the second Friday of March each year.
