HPI: Dental benefits coverage increased in 2014
November 02, 2016
Dental benefits coverage increased for adults ages 19-64 in 2014, according to an Oct. 28 ADA Health Policy Institute research brief.
In looking at data from 2000-14, HPI found that the percentage of adults with private dental benefits increased from 56.2 percent in 2013 to 58.1 percent in 2014. HPI researchers also noted that the number of working-age adults lacking dental benefits dropped to 29.4 percent in 2014, down from 33.3 percent in 2013.
Other key findings included:
- The percentage of children lacking dental benefits continued to fall in 2014, and is now at its lowest level —11 percent — since 1999, the first year that data became available.
- HPI said it's still too early to tell whether increases in dental benefits coverage will boost dental care utilization, particularly among working-age adults.
