Updates, improvements underway for ADA Credentialing Service

ADA members and nonmembers can expect new updates and improvements to the ADA Credentialing Service this summer and fall.
The Association announced in November 2016 that it's pursuing a new technology system for its credentialing service — an effort to improve the credentialing process and reduce administrative burdens for all dentists.

The updated technology, when available, would allow dentists to enter their credentials into a securely designed portal through This information will be available to payers, including insurance companies, federal agencies, hospitals and employers, approved by the dentist.

The project would replace the traditional method where dentists must respond individually to each payer request for credential information — a process that can be slow and cumbersome. The ADA Credentialing Service would offer a one-stop shop with accessible accurate information and supporting documentation.

For now, the ADA is encouraging its members to update their member profiles at The updated profile data will pre-populate inside the credentialing tool once it is ready to launch, which can save time when members are ready to complete and attest.

For dentists who have begun or completed registration of their credentials, the Association has securely stored the data. The ADA Credentialing Service originally launched in September 2016. For those who have completed and attested their credentials, the ADA will continue to send notifications regarding license expirations while the updates are made.

In addition to giving members a leg up when the enhanced ADA Credentialing Service launches this year, an updated member profile allows the dentists to take advantage of the ADA's new advertising and social media campaign encouraging prospective patients to see an ADA dentist. A complete profile will help dentists rank higher in the search of the new Find-A-Dentist tool.
