Discovering group practice subject of Las Vegas conference

Las Vegas — Those who believe that practicing in a group setting is more or less the same as being in a solo practice should roll the dice again.

That is the idea behind BIG IDEA 2018: Discovering Group Practice, a Jan. 31, 2018, conference at Bally’s Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, presented by the ADA Council on Dental Practice in conjunction with the American Academy of Dental Group Practice Expo ’18. 

“This conference will provide a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to learn how and why to start or join a dental practice group,” said Dr. Craig Ratner, the incoming Council on Dental Practice chair. “This day-long program will cover topics such as building the legal entity, financial feasibility, key performance indicators, integrating systems and contracts.”

The conference is aimed at anyone considering whether to start or join a group practice or to those looking to expand and enhance an existing group practice.

The council is bringing together speakers that can help dentists and dental teams discover new solutions that can benefit businesses and streamline operations.

Speakers at the conference include:

Mr. Schiff

  • Allen Schiff will present Growth Strategies, where he will discuss the basics on how to grow the group. Mr. Schiff is a speaker and an author who is a founding member of the Academy of Dental CPAs and has over 40 years of experience in dental practice management.

Dr. Levin
  • Dr. Roger P. Levin will present How to Use Key Performance Indicators, where he will Dr. Levin will show attendees how to improve small group practice efficiency and production. He will focus on how dentist-owners can cut through the information overload and zero in on what really matters in their group practices. Dr. Levin is a third-generation dentist, speaker and author of 68 books and more than 4,300 articles.

Ms. Duncan
  • Teresa Duncan will present Integrating Systems, in which she will discuss how to implement human resources management systems that enable group practices to attract and retain high-performing staff. Ms. Duncan is a speaker and author with over 20 years’ experience in health care.

Other facets of the conference include a presentation from Jeffrey Fraum and Cathryn Albrecht from the ADA Division of Legal Affairs in how to think like a lawyer when dealing with contracts and contractual matters.  A panel discussion where four dentists will recap their personal journeys to discovering group practices is also included.

“Everyone can benefit from new ideas and points of view,” Dr. Ratner said.

Attendees may also wish to extend their stay and attend the American Academy of Dental Group Practice Dental Group Expo ’18. AADGP is an organization dedicated to promoting the group concept and providing educational resources to group dentists and administrators. The expo will be held Feb. 1-3. AADGP will send a $150 reimbursement to all Dental Group Expo first-time attendees who are also attending ADA’s BIG IDEA 2018. 

Five hours of continuing education credit are offered.
