It’s that time of the year again.

CDT 2018: Dental Procedure Codes will be released Sept. 5, enabling dentists to record procedures with increased specificity and accuracy when the new codes go into effect Jan 1, 2018.

And more accurate coding means fewer claims rejections and speedier reimbursement.

CDT 2018 is the most up-to-date coding resource and the only Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-recognized code set for dentistry.

In 2018 there are 18 new codes, 16 revised codes and three deleted codes. CDT 2018 contains:
• A new code for diabetes testing.
• New prosthodontics codes with more specific language for the type of prosthesis being placed.
• Changes to anesthesia codes to more accurately describe the services delivered to a patient.
• Additional codes relating to teledentistry.
CDT 2018 can also be purchased as a kit that includes the CDT 2018 Coding Companion, which trains staff on how to use the right codes at the right time, and the CDT Code Check App, which puts complete CDT codes on dentists’ phones or tablets.

The CDT 2018 Coding Companion allows dentists to have their teams brush up on their coding skills. Revised for 2018, the companion trains staff to code more accurately and efficiently with key coding concepts, scenarios and Q & A. Dentists will be able to use the companion, along with CDT 2018, to enhance the knowledge of current staff or as an orientation tool for new employees.

The CDT 2018 Companion includes:
• More than 50 coding scenarios.
• More than 100 common coding questions and answers.
• Descriptions of new CDT codes and revisions and the rationale for these changes.
• Tables linking CDT Codes with applicable ICD-10 diagnosis codes.

The companion was developed with knowledge experts to ensure the information is as accurate and up-to-date as possible.

“The CDT Companion is a great educational tool,” said Dr. Jeanette K. MacLean, a dentist based in Glendale, Arizona. “It makes life easier as an office manager or practice owner.”

The award-winning CDT Code Check is a handy, searchable app containing the most up-to-date CDT Codes.

“I love having CDT Code Check at my fingertips,” said Boston dentist Dr. Linda Vidone. “We all know what the codes are, but sometimes we need the official definition. I know what a sinus lift is, but not the exact definition and what it includes.”

The CDT 2018 manual and CDT 2018 Coding Companion are also available as e-Books.
