Dentists' practice ownership decreasing
April 09, 2018
The ADA Health Policy Institute reports that the percentage of dentists in private practices who are owners has declined overall since 2005, but more for younger dentists than older ones.
In the infographic, "Dentists' Practice Ownership is Declining," the HPI says that dentists under age 35 have seen a decline of practice ownership of 44 percent in 2005 to 28.4 percent in 2017. Dentists aged 55-64 showed a slight decline from 93.8 percent to 92.3 percent during the same time.
Female dentists are reported to be less likely than male dentists to own a practice. In 2005, 66.8 percent of women dentists were owners and in 2017, that figure was 63.4 percent.
