Aug. 21 webinar will address medical emergency preparedness

August 09, 2018

A free Aug. 21 webinar, Preparing for Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office, will help dentists understand the importance of having an up-to-date emergency medical kit in the practice and ensuring that staff are trained in responding to unforeseen medical crises that can occur.

The webinar is scheduled for 2-3 p.m. CDT and one hour of continuing education is available for those who watch it live.

Among other topics, the webinar will address medications in emergency kits and what causes variability in the shelf life of medications. In addition, attendees will learn how the opioid epidemic could impact the contents of their emergency kits.

Dr. Donald Cohen will lead the seminar. Dr. Cohen has been a licensed practicing dentist in New York for more than 30 years and has taught at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine for more than three decades. He has been an attending dentist at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City for over 20 years and is past president of the New York State Society of Dentistry for Children.

The impetus for the webinar was a survey on the topic conducted by the ADA Council on Dental Practice; the council will release the results of the survey later this summer.
