Eating disorders awareness week set for Feb. 26-March 4

February 23, 2018

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is Feb. 26-March 4.

This year’s theme is “Let’s Get Real,” referring to the National Eating Disorders Association’s statistic that 30 million Americans will struggle with a full-blown eating disorder at some point in their lives and millions more “will battle food and body image issues that have untold negative impacts on their lives.”

“People of all genders, ages, races, ethnicities, body shapes and weights, sexual orientations and socioeconomic statuses” are affected by eating disorders, the organization states in its “Nine Truths About Eating Disorders.”

When it comes to the early detection of eating disorders, dentists are in a unique position for spotting the early warning signs and referring patients to the proper behavioral health professionals.
